ABC seeks to recruit a Senior Auditor - Wholesale Banking and Credit Risk in the Group Audit Department based in Bahrain.
The Senior Auditor – Wholesale Banking & Credit Risk is required to plan and execute audits and reviews of ABC’s business units, departments, branches, subsidiaries and affiliates in Bahrain, MENA and international locations. This is to provide objective feedback and assurance to Senior Management and the Audit Committee of the Board on the design adequacy and operating effectiveness of the control framework and risk management. This is particularly related to Wholesale Banking coverage local & network Corporates, local & network Financial Institutions and the WB products five lines of business, namely Credit & Lending, Global Transactional Banking, Special Financing, Commercial Real Estate, Islamic Banking. It involves audit of Credit Risk Management / process including Credit Underwriting, Credit PSP & Portfolio Review, Remedial Loan Unit, Credit Administration, IFRS9 and Group Assets Quality Review.
Scope of the Job
Reporting to the Audit Head – Wholesale Banking, Islamic Banking & Credit Risk the job holder is responsible to:
- Monitor business activity to identify any changes in risk profiles or deterioration in control environment and updating audit risk assessment and plans to align with emerging risks/control issues – these can be achieved through activities such as regular meetings with group and local heads of wholesale banking and credit;
- Keep abreast of new laws, regulations, rules, group and local policies, products, technologies and projects and consider implications specifically wholesale banking and credit.
- Maintain and update a structured inventory of auditable entities for wholesale banking and credit, representing the total population of local divisions, functions, products and client coverage, including Islamic Banking.
- Support the development of the Annual Audit Plan for wholesale banking and credit based on risk assessment taking into account business monitoring activities and specific requests from Management.
- Perform audit assignments in line with the approved Annual Audit Plan, on time and within budget. The primary focus will be on coverage of wholesale banking and credit
- Adhere to Group Audit and international standards and requirements related to code of ethics, principles, staffing, methodology and the quality of work papers, deliverables and reporting
- Maintain an appropriate, pro-active, constructive and balanced relationship with local Management; supporting Group Audit in the fulfillment of obligations and responsibilities in respect of governance, risk management and internal controls.
- Support the Audit Head of Wholesale Banking and Credit with pro-active and effective tracking / monitoring of progress achieved with the implementation of agreed corrective action plans related to audit reports published
- Pursue continuous development of knowledge, skills, experience and professional certifications to support Internal Audit responsibilities. Seek coaching and mentoring with more senior colleagues whenever required for career development and achieving greater responsibilities in future
Areas of Knowledge, Qualification and Experience
- Ideally 12+ years of Audit experience of which at least 4+ years in Wholesale Banking and / or Credit, multi-national experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in finance, economics, accounting, banking, auditing, management, or related subjects.
- Professional certification such as CA/ ACCA/ CPA/ CIA/ CBA is preferred
- Adequate knowledge and practical experience of the highly technical and diversified portfolio of conventional and Islamic wholesale Banking Products. This includes WB coverage, namely local & network corporates and Financial Institutions, the WB five product lines i.e., Credit & Lending, Global Transactional Banking, Specialized Finance, Commercial Real Estates and Islamic Banking as well as WB Front Office and Middle Office Control framework
- Adequate knowledge and skills in providing assurance services on Credit risk with thorough knowledge of credit process, credit quality and Credit Administration gained through prolonged first-hand auditing of these disciplines
- A thorough understanding of the risks and expected controls in relation to Wholesale Banking, Credit, Credit Risk Management and Operations, specifically Trade Finance and Loans
- A solid understanding of the local, regional, and international regulatory environments where ABC BSC and its Subsidiaries operate, namely MENA, USA, Europe, and Singapore
- A strong understanding of corporate governance
- Excellent verbal and written English and Arabic language skills. A third language such as French or Portuguese is an advantage.
